Cabinet Approves ₹8,307.74 Cr Capital Region Ring Road Project in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: In a major infrastructure boost for Odisha, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today approved the construction of a 6-Lane Access-Controlled Capital Region Ring Road (CRRR) connecting the Bhubaneswar Bypass over a stretch of 110.875 km. The project will be developed on the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM) at a capital cost of ₹8,307.74 crore.

The new highway aims to decongest the existing Rameshwar–Tangi corridor on the National Highway, which currently faces heavy traffic volumes passing through the urbanized belts of Khordha, Bhubaneswar, and Cuttack. Once completed, the greenfield ring road will significantly ease freight movement, reduce logistics costs, and facilitate faster travel across the state and eastern India.

The project alignment will integrate with three major National Highways (NH-55, NH-57, NH-655) and one State Highway (SH-65), ensuring seamless connectivity to key economic, social, and logistics hubs. It will also connect 10 Economic Nodes, 4 Social Nodes, and 5 Logistic Nodes, while strengthening multi-modal integration with 1 major railway station, 1 airport, a proposed Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP), and 2 major ports.

Highlighting its far-reaching impact, officials noted that the project will not only boost connectivity between major religious and economic centers but also accelerate industrial development and trade opportunities in Odisha.

The construction is expected to generate 74.43 lakh person-days of direct employment and 93.04 lakh person-days of indirect employment, opening new avenues of growth and prosperity for surrounding regions.

The ambitious project is being seen as a game-changer for Odisha, positioning the state as a stronger logistics and industrial hub in eastern India.
