C-DOT and IIT-Jodhpur Collaborate to Advance Automated Service Management in 5G Networks Using AI

New Delhi: Taking a step towards technological innovation in the telecommunications sector, C-DOT, the premier Telecom R&D Centre of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Government of India, and Indian Institute of Technology, Jodhpur (IIT-J) have joined forces to develop “Automated Service Management in 5G and Beyond Networks Using AI.”

The collaboration, facilitated under the Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF) of the DoT, aims to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) to revolutionize network management and enhance service delivery in 5G and future generations of telecom networks.

Under the agreement, both entities will focus on developing AI frameworks for automated network management, fault detection, and diagnostic techniques, utilizing the vast amount of data generated within 5G networks. The initiative will also establish a real-time 5G and Beyond testbed, compliant with O-RAN standards, to demonstrate the effectiveness of the developed automated network management and slicing techniques across various application use-cases, including smart metering and remotely operated vehicles.

The agreement signing ceremony, held recently, was attended by Dr. Pankaj Kumar Dalela, Director of C-DOT, and Dr. Sai Kiran, MPR, Assistant Professor, Dept of Electrical Engineering, IIT Jodhpur.

Dr. Sai Kiran, MPR, Associate Professor at IIT Jodhpur, expressed enthusiasm about the R&D grant received from the DoT, emphasizing its potential to drive advanced research and development initiatives in network management for 5G and 6G telecom networks. He highlighted the significance of leveraging AI technologies to develop automated solutions that ensure low-latency and high-reliability performance, thereby enabling the growth of new application verticals in the telecommunications domain.
