Bus Falls into Canal in Dhenkanal, 20 Passengers Injured

Dhenkanal: Twenty passengers were injured on Thursday when a bus carrying over 50 people from Parajang to Bhubaneswar overturned and fell into the Rengali branch canal near Kantiokatani under Tumusingha police limits.

Eyewitnesses said the vehicle suddenly veered off the road before plunging into the canal. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be confirmed. On being informed, a fire brigade team rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations, helping pull out passengers trapped inside the bus.

The injured were shifted to the Anlabereni Community Health Centre for treatment. Medical staff reported that most victims sustained minor to moderate injuries, though a few are being closely monitored.

Rescue work was continuing till late in the day, with police and fire services personnel at the scene. Authorities said a detailed inquiry will be carried out to determine the circumstances that led to the mishap.
