BJP Retains Power in Arunachal Pradesh, SKM Secures Second Term in Sikkim

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has successfully retained power in Arunachal Pradesh, while the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) has secured a second consecutive term in Sikkim, according to the latest election results.

Voting for the 60 assembly seats in Arunachal Pradesh and 32 assembly seats in Sikkim took place on April 19. As the final leads come in, the political landscape of these northeastern states is becoming clear.

In Arunachal Pradesh, the results are being announced today for 50 of the 60 assembly seats. The BJP, under the leadership of Chief Minister Pema Khandu, has already secured victory in ten assembly seats unopposed. Chief Minister Khandu is among the ten BJP candidates who won their seats without opposition. The BJP’s strong performance ensures its continued governance in the state.

In Sikkim, the SKM, led by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, has won 18 seats in the 32-member assembly, securing a clear majority. This victory marks the SKM’s second consecutive term in office. In the previous 2019 elections, the SKM had ended the 25-year rule of the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) by winning 17 seats, while the SDF secured 15 seats.

Chief Minister Tamang expressed his confidence in his party’s ability to secure a second term, attributing their success to the hard work and dedication towards improving the lives of the people of Sikkim. “We have worked tirelessly for the betterment of Sikkim, and this victory is a testament to the trust and support of the people,” Tamang stated.

The decisive wins for the BJP in Arunachal Pradesh and the SKM in Sikkim reflect the voters’ confidence in the incumbent leadership and their satisfaction with the governance and development initiatives undertaken during their previous terms.
