Bhubaneswar Traffic Police to get AC Helmets, tests conducted

Bhubaneswar: To shield traffic constables from the blistering heat wave, the Commissionerate Police is considering procuring Air Conditioned (AC) helmets for their personnel.

Following the example set by Gujarat Police, the Commissionerate Police is set to introduce cooling helmets for traffic personnel who often find themselves standing for prolonged periods under the scorching sun.

A trial run of the AC helmets was conducted on Saturday in Bhubaneswar by the Commissionerate Police on an experimental basis.

The innovative helmets are designed to reduce body temperature by nearly 15 degrees Celsius. They can function for up to 8 hours on a full charge of 6 hours. Additionally, the helmets are equipped with hard plastic shields to protect the eyes of policemen from sunlight.

The Commissionerate Police believes that this initiative will provide much-needed relief from the heat wave and enable traffic personnel to carry out their duties without enduring the physical discomfort of prolonged exposure to the sun. The helmets would be handed over to traffic constables in batches as part of the trial run.

Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda, along with DCP Traffic PK Rout and ACP Sarat Kumar Sahu, were present during the launch of the cooling helmets.

Furthermore, it has been stated that initially, a few helmets will be tried, and upon finding them useful, larger quantities shall be ordered to facilitate broader implementation of this initiative.
