Bhubaneswar: To enhance road safety and curb traffic violations, the Bhubaneswar Traffic Department has rolled out stringent measures targeting individuals caught jumping red lights within the city limits.
According to DCP PK Rout, jumping a red light in the Odisha capital will now result in the immediate suspension of the driver’s license and legal action. The violators will be forwarded to court, where they will face the consequences of their actions.
A special drive has been launched by the Commissionerate Police to enforce these measures effectively. The initiative aims to instill a sense of responsibility among motorists and reduce the incidence of traffic violations, particularly at critical intersections.
DCP PK Rout outlined the key aspects of the campaign, stating, “We are commencing this operation at AG Square, Laxmisagar Square, Jaydev Vihar Square, and Khandagiri Square as part of the initial phase. Our primary focus is on apprehending individuals who disregard red lights.”
Under the new protocol, vehicles caught jumping red lights will be immediately impounded, and the driver’s license will be seized. Subsequently, the offenders will be presented before the court to face legal proceedings. Additionally, the seized licenses will be forwarded to the Regional Transport Office (RTO) for a mandatory three-month suspension in accordance with legal provisions.
