Mumbai,India-March 15 2015: Indigo Flight Taking off Mumbai Domestic Airport
Bhubaneswar: Strengthening regional air connectivity, IndiGo is all set to launch direct flights between Bhubaneswar and Visakhapatnam, marking the addition of the fifth southern destination connected to Odisha’s capital after Chennai, Bengaluru, Kochi, and Hyderabad.
Although an official announcement on the inaugural date is awaited, IndiGo’s website indicates that bookings for the Bhubaneswar–Visakhapatnam route are now open, with services scheduled to begin from June 12.
This development comes close on the heels of IndiGo’s much-anticipated launch of its first international service from Bhubaneswar to Abu Dhabi, which is also set to commence on June 12 with tri-weekly operations.
Airport authorities confirmed that the upcoming direct flight will replace the earlier one-stop connection to Visakhapatnam, streamlining travel for passengers and boosting ease of access for professionals, students, and medical travelers. “The route is expected to contribute significantly to the sectors of business, healthcare, and education between Odisha and Andhra Pradesh,” said an airport official.
With the addition of Visakhapatnam, Bhubaneswar’s domestic network will expand to 29 destinations. In April alone, the city saw new connections to Ghaziabad, Port Blair, and Goa—reflecting the capital’s growing importance as a regional aviation hub.
