Bhitarkanika National Park to Reopen on Aug 1 with Exciting New ‘Sky Walk’ Feature

Bhubaneswar: After a two-month closure, Bhitarkanika National Park, famed for its saltwater crocodile habitat, is set to welcome visitors again on August 1.

Closed from May 1 to July 31 to support the breeding season of crocodiles, the park’s reopening is eagerly awaited by nature enthusiasts and tourists. The highlight of this reopening is the introduction of the ‘Sky Walk’ or ‘Walkway’, a thrilling new attraction designed to offer visitors a unique perspective of the park.

The elevated walkway, constructed by the Forest Department, stretches for 600 meters and is made of wood. Starting from the Mangrove Metta Nursery, it winds through the natural surroundings of Dangamala, a crocodile breeding center. This feature allows tourists to enjoy a bird’s-eye view of the park’s rich flora and fauna, providing an immersive nature experience.

In addition to enhancing the visitor experience, the Sky Walk is expected to boost eco-tourism in the region. For safety reasons, only 20 tourists will be allowed on the walkway at a time, ensuring a secure and enjoyable experience for all.

Park authorities are optimistic that the reopening, coupled with the new Sky Walk, will attract more visitors and highlight the park’s unique natural beauty and biodiversity.
