
Berhampur: Pati Sonapur beach, situated under the Chikiti block of Ganjam district, has achieved the prestigious Blue Flag certification, marking it as the second Blue Flag beach in Odisha, following Puri.
The inclusion of Sonapur beach in this distinguished list was facilitated by the Society of Integrated Coastal Management (SICOM), an agency operating under the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change. Sonapur beach successfully met all 33 stringent criteria required for the Blue Flag certification.
Sunny Khokhar, the nodal officer and Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) in Berhampur, shared that the Foundation for Environment Education in Denmark bestowed the Blue Flag status upon Sonapur beach. He emphasized that this achievement is a significant step in the ongoing commitment to building a sustainable environment.
