BDA, BMC Demolish 330 Transit Houses Near Kanyashram for Road Development

Bhubaneswar: A large-scale enforcement drive near Kanyashram in Chandrasekharpur Mouza cleared a major stretch of government land on Tuesday, with the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) demolishing 330 transit houses to make way for planned road infrastructure.

The joint operation was carried out as part of the ongoing drive to remove unauthorised occupation from government land and facilitate planned urban development in the capital city.

Besides the transit houses, enforcement teams demolished 45 toilets and bathrooms, removed an approximately 500-foot-long laterite stone boundary wall, and cleared an Anganwadi centre and three wooden cabins from the site.

According to officials, the reclaimed land will be used for construction of a branch road connecting to the Right Parallel Road. The proposed road is expected to improve connectivity in the area and support future infrastructure development.

The operation was conducted under the direction of BDA Vice-Chairman Chanchal Rana and supervised by Joint Commissioner Ranjan Kumar Jena.

Additional Commissioner (Estate-I), BDA, Manoj Swain and Joint Commissioner (Housing), BMC, Ajaya Kumar Mohanty, along with senior officials from both civic agencies, were present during the enforcement drive.

Given the scale of the operation, elaborate security arrangements were put in place to maintain law and order. Two Additional DCPs, four ACPs, nine Inspectors and 20 platoons of police personnel were deployed at the site. Adequate numbers of women police personnel were also mobilised.

Eight JCB machines were used to carry out the demolition and clear the encroachments from the identified government land.

The latest drive is part of the authorities’ continuing efforts to reclaim government land and use it for planned infrastructure and urban development projects in Bhubaneswar.
