BDA Begins Demarcation Survey for Left Parallel Road; Slum Families to Be Enumerated for Relocation

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) has launched a demarcation and enumeration survey for the proposed left parallel road from OERC Square to Patharagadia. The two-day exercise, which began on Tuesday, is set to conclude on Wednesday, marking a critical step in the city’s infrastructure expansion.

The survey primarily focuses on identifying and enumerating families residing in the Chunukoli slum area, who are likely to be impacted by the project. Acting on the directives of BDA Vice Chairman Dr. N. Thirumala Naik, four teams comprising officials from the Revenue Department, Works Department, BDA, and Commissionerate Police have been deployed to conduct the fieldwork.

Senior officials, including the Additional Commissioner (Estate-II) and Joint Commissioner (Enforcement) of BDA, along with the Sub-Collector and Tehsildar of Bhubaneswar, are supervising the demarcation to ensure a transparent and accountable process.

The left parallel road project, which aims to decongest city traffic and improve intra-city connectivity, will stretch from the Institute of Mathematics to Ekamra Kanan. The alignment covers vital locations such as Patharagadia, Utkal Hospital, and Rail Vihar. While certain portions of the road are already under construction, progress hinges on the successful acquisition of land and clearance of encroachments along the proposed route.

This demarcation survey is a key milestone in balancing the twin objectives of urban development and social responsibility. By identifying the affected households, the authorities aim to ensure their proper relocation and rehabilitation under existing urban development norms and policies.

The BDA has reiterated its commitment to carrying out the project in a manner that minimizes disruption while prioritising the welfare of displaced families.
