New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Delhi on Saturday, following the resignation of Arvind Kejriwal earlier this week. Atishi, 43, becomes the second woman to hold the post in Delhi’s history and is expected to lead the government until the upcoming assembly elections in February 2025.
Alongside Atishi, Saurabh Bharadwaj, Gopal Rai, Kailash Gahlot, and Imran Hussain were sworn in as ministers, retaining their positions from the previous government. Mukesh Ahlawat, MLA from Sultanpur Majra, joins the cabinet as a new face.
Atishi was selected as the leader of the AAP legislature party earlier in the week, following Kejriwal’s resignation, which he submitted to Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena. Her leadership is expected to be a short tenure, given the looming assembly polls.
As a former minister in Kejriwal’s Cabinet, Atishi held 14 key portfolios, including finance, education, and revenue. She played a pivotal role in steering the government during Kejriwal’s imprisonment, bolstering her credentials as a capable administrator.
