Guwahati: Eminent Assamese writer and journalist Homen Borgohain passed away on Wednesday morning. He was 88.
He had recovered from Covid 19 and was discharged from hospital on May 7. He collapsed from his bed at his home and was admitted to the hospital where he breathed his last after a cardiac arrest.
The Sahitya Akademi awardee, Borgohain is known for some of his best literary works. In 1978 he won the Sahitya Akademi for his novel Pita Putra but he returned the award in 2015 in protest of growing intolerance in India.
Born at Dhakuakhana in Lakhimpur district, he was serving as the editor-in-chief of Assamese daily Niyomiya Barta until his death.
