Assam Millets Mission Delegation Seeks Inspiration from Successful Odisha Millets Mission

Bhubaneswar: A 15-member delegation from Assam Millets Mission (AMM) is currently on an exposure visit to Odisha to gain insights and inspiration from the successful implementation of the Odisha Millets Mission (OMM). The AMM team, led by officials and experts, engaged with OMM authorities to understand the intricacies of procurement and seed systems that contributed to the success of the mission.

During the meeting, Principal Secretary of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment (DA&FE) in Odisha, Dr. Arabinda K Padhee, emphasized the significance of adopting a mission-mode approach, flexible implementation norms, and ensuring long-term budget allocation for the sustained success of such programs. He shared valuable insights into the strategies employed by OMM, providing a roadmap for the AMM team to follow.

The AMM delegation expressed gratitude for Dr. Padhee’s valuable insights, recognizing the importance of learning from successful models to enhance the effectiveness of their own mission. The exchange of knowledge between the two states is expected to foster collaboration and contribute to the overall development of millets cultivation in Assam.

Additionally, Director of Agriculture & Food Production, Shri. Prem Chaudhary, interacted with the visiting delegation. He elaborated on the innovative practices adopted by OMM, highlighting the role of the Joint Director of Agriculture (Millets), Scheme Officer, and the State Project Management Unit (SPMU) team in ensuring the mission’s success.

The exposure visit aims to facilitate the transfer of best practices, strategies, and methodologies from Odisha’s successful millets mission to Assam. By leveraging the experiences and successes of OMM, the AMM delegation aims to strengthen their mission, contributing to the overall development of millets cultivation in the state of Assam.
