Assam Government Announces Civilian Awards on Lines of Bharat Ratna and Padma Awards

Guwahati: The Assam government has decided to institute a series of civilian awards on the line of Padma Awards. The decision was taken after a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday.

Every year ‘Asom Ratna’ would be presented to a person for their significant contribution to the society. ‘Asom Bibhushan’ will be awarded to three people, ‘Assam Bhushan’ to five people and ‘Asom Shree’ to ten people every year.

The awards will carry a cash reward of Rs 5 lakhs, Rs 3 lakhs, Rs 2 lakhs and Rs 1 lakh respectively, with other benefits like free medical treatment of critical illness, free stay at Assam Bhawans, free travel on ASTC buses, among others.
