Ashwini Vaishnaw Inaugurates East Side Entry at Cuttack Railway Station Under Amrit Stations Scheme

Bhubaneswar: Minister of Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, inaugurated the East Side Entry of Cuttack Railway Station today, marking a pivotal moment in its redevelopment under the Amrit Stations Scheme. This modern addition, including the new East Side Station Building, is set to enhance passenger accessibility, safety, and convenience while transforming the station into a world-class transportation hub.

Designed to provide seamless movement for passengers arriving from the National Highway side, the East Side Entry is a long-awaited upgrade. Part of a ₹303 crore redevelopment project, this initiative aims to position Cuttack Railway Station as a regional hub of connectivity and socio-economic growth.

In his address, Vaishnaw highlighted the significance of the project in improving the passenger experience and boosting trade and commerce in the area. He emphasized that such infrastructure development would not only enhance travel convenience but also contribute to the region’s economic prosperity.

The East Side Station Building features state-of-the-art amenities, including 21,270 sqft of air-conditioned space, a 2,100 sqft food court, modern toilets, ticket counters, waiting areas, and Sugamya-compliant escalators and lifts for improved accessibility. Additional facilities such as a Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Janaushadhi Kendra (PMBJK), ATMs, Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVM), and One Station One Product (OSOP) trolleys showcasing local handicrafts further elevate passenger comfort.

Completed at a cost of ₹14.63 crore, the project fulfills a long-standing demand for enhanced connectivity and passenger facilities. The upgraded station is expected to streamline operations, improve passenger flow, and enhance safety and travel efficiency.

The new infrastructure will not only benefit passengers from Cuttack but also those from surrounding districts, including Paradeep, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Badamba, Narasinghpur, and Niali. With spacious circulating areas, dedicated parking zones, and efficient pickup/drop-off facilities, the development is set to become a model for railway station upgrades across the country.
