
New Delhi/Goa: The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has appointed noted filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker as the Festival Director for the 57th edition of the International Film Festival of India, scheduled to be held in Goa.
Gowariker, known for his significant contributions to Indian cinema, brings decades of association with IFFI, reflecting his long-standing engagement with global film culture and the evolution of cinematic arts.
Expressing his views on the appointment, Gowariker said he felt honoured to take on the role and contribute to one of the country’s most prestigious film festivals. He recalled his journey with IFFI, from attending it in 1984 to serving as Jury President for International Cinema in 2024, highlighting his enduring connection with the event.
He noted that carrying forward the legacy of a festival that has evolved over decades since its inception in 1952 is both a privilege and a responsibility. Gowariker added that he looks forward to working closely with the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and the Government of Goa to further strengthen the festival’s global standing.
The International Film Festival of India, one of Asia’s premier film festivals, serves as a major platform for showcasing excellence in world cinema and fostering cultural exchange. The upcoming edition is expected to continue this tradition by bringing together filmmakers, artists and audiences from across the globe.
