Aryna Sabalenka Secures Spot in Australian Open Final With Win Over Coco Gauff

Melbourne: Defending champion Aryna Sabalenka advanced to the Australian Open final after overcoming a formidable challenge from American Coco Gauff in a tense semi-final clash. Sabalenka, the Belarusian second seed, secured a 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 victory against the fourth-seeded Gauff, avenging her loss to the American in last year’s US Open final.

The semi-final encounter was characterized by an error-strewn first set, with both players displaying moments of edginess. The set witnessed six breaks, reflecting the high stakes and competitive spirit. However, Sabalenka managed to seize control in the decisive moments of the second set, securing her place in the final.

Sabalenka is now set to face off against Chinese 12th seed Zheng Qinwen in the championship match scheduled for Saturday. Zheng, 21, booked her spot in her first Grand Slam final by ending the remarkable run of Ukrainian qualifier Dayana Yastremska with a 6-4, 6-4 triumph in the second semi-final.

The upcoming final presents an opportunity for Zheng to become the second Chinese woman to clinch the Australian Open singles title, coincidentally on the 10th anniversary of Li Na’s historic victory. Reflecting on her achievement, Zheng expressed, “It feels unbelievable. I’m super excited to have such a great performance and arrive in the final.”

The stage is now set for an exciting showdown between Aryna Sabalenka and Zheng Qinwen as they vie for the coveted Australian Open title.
