Anupam Kher announces Hindi remake of Odia movie Pratikshya

Ahead of its theatrical release on December 2, the makers of the Odia movie ‘Pratikshya’ has a reason to cheer as Bollywood actor Anupam Kher on Wednesday announced the remake of the movie in Hindi.

He announced this at the 53rd International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Goa.

Directed by Anupam Patnaik, ‘Pratikshya’ was selected for screening at IFFI under the Indian Panorama section.

Kher also said that he would play the role of the father and gave token money as a signing amount for the film to Patnaik.

The movie is inspired by a short story by writer Gourahari Das. It is the story of a complex relationship between father and son. Sanjay portrayed by actor Dipanwit Dashamohapatra is a middle-class unemployed boy in search of a government job. While his father Bipin is insisting him to find a job soon as he has left only a few months to retire and they have debts to clear. Bipin is also diagnosed with a terminal illness. Meanwhile, Sanjay learns about the government scheme of compassionate appointment under which the family member of a deceased government employee gets a job. Failing to find a government job, Sanjay waits for the death of his father.

Speaking at the event Dipanwit said, “This is a big moment for me as it is my first film as a lead actor, but for the people of Odisha it is an even bigger deal as the Odia film industry has been struggling for some time.”

The movie had a world premiere at the 11th Annual DC South Asian Film Festival on November 5 where it won an award for best story.
