Bhubaneswar: UNICEF-led Youth4Water Plus, in collaboration with U Report India, launched an Online Social Media Chatbot program at KT Global School, Khordha, on Tuesday. Ollywood actress Anu Chowdhury inaugurated the program.
U-Report, developed by UNICEF, is a social messaging tool and data collection system aimed at promoting youth engagement, informing leaders, and driving positive change. Through SMS polls and alerts, the program collects real-time responses on various issues such as health, education, water, sanitation, hygiene, youth unemployment, HIV/AIDS, and disease outbreaks. The gathered data is then published for analysis and action.
This innovative initiative seeks to revolutionize Water, Health, and Sanitation (WASH) and Climate Change advocacy by harnessing technology and involving young people in addressing climate change challenges and striving for a sustainable future.
As global warming and climate change pose critical challenges worldwide, it is crucial to engage youth and leverage technology to find innovative solutions. The Youth4Water Plus chatbot program on U Report provides a platform for young individuals from diverse backgrounds to share their stories, concerns, and ideas on combating climate change.
Shipra Saxena, WASH and CCES Specialist at UNICEF, emphasized the importance of youth engagement and technology in driving positive change, stating, “Climate Change is now our most pressing challenge. Through this initiative, we aim to amplify youth voices, raise awareness, and inspire a new generation of climate champions.”
Dr. Rabindranath Pati, Director of KT Global School, acknowledged the misutilization of natural resources and the resulting burden on future generations, stating, “It is high time that we take action for a better, sustainable future.”
Amitayush Priyadarshi, Communication and Digital Media Officer at UNICEF, highlighted the interactive and user-friendly nature of the chatbot program, enabling active participation in discussions on water conservation, access to clean water, sanitation, and climate change challenges. “By breaking down barriers of language, location, and time zones, the chatbot ensures inclusivity and accessibility for a diverse global audience,” she said.
The U Report program currently boasts 26 lakh U Reporters in India and 28 million globally across 95 countries.
