Paris: Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat secured a thrilling 7-5 victory over Ukraine’s Oksana Livach in the women’s 50kg freestyle quarter-final, advancing to the semi-finals at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Competing in her third Olympic Games, Phogat is now just one win away from securing a confirmed medal at the Summer Games. Earlier today, she achieved a remarkable win against Tokyo 2020 champion Yui Susaki of Japan in the round of 16, setting the stage for her quarter-final triumph.
In the quarter-final match, Phogat took an early lead with a score of 2-0 in the first period. Despite a strong comeback from Livach in the second period, Phogat held off the challenge and emerged victorious, outscoring her Ukrainian opponent.
Vinesh Phogat is set to face either Cuba’s Yusneylis Guzman Lopez or Lithuania’s Gabija Dilyte in the semi-finals, which will take place today at 10:25 PM IST at the Champ-de-Mars Arena.
