New Delhi: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, chaired a high-level meeting today to review the security situation in Manipur. The meeting, held in New Delhi, was attended by key officials including Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Pande, Union Home Secretary, Director of Intelligence Bureau (IB), Chief of Army Staff (Designate) Lt. General Upendra Dwivedi, Security Advisor to the Government of Manipur, Director General of Assam Rifles, Chief Secretary of Manipur, Director General of Police (DGP) of Manipur, and senior officials from the Army and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
During the meeting, Amit Shah conducted a comprehensive review of the security situation in Manipur and directed all officials to ensure that no further incidents of violence occur in the state. Emphasizing the importance of strategic deployment of central forces, Shah stated that peace and tranquility must be restored and that additional forces would be deployed if necessary. He also called for strict legal action against the perpetrators of violence.
“The Government of India, under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, is fully committed to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens in Manipur,” stated Shri Amit Shah. He also reviewed conditions in relief camps, stressing the need for proper availability of food, water, medicines, and other basic amenities. The Home Minister directed the Chief Secretary of Manipur to ensure adequate health and education facilities for displaced people and to expedite their rehabilitation.
Highlighting the importance of a coordinated approach to resolve the ongoing ethnic conflict, Shah noted that the Ministry of Home Affairs would engage in dialogue with both the Meiteis and Kukis to bridge the ethnic divide as quickly as possible. He reiterated that the Government of India is actively supporting the Manipur Government in strengthening the security situation in the state.
This high-level meeting underscores the central government’s commitment to addressing the issues in Manipur and ensuring a peaceful resolution to the conflict, with a focus on the well-being and safety of all its citizens.
