New Delhi: Presenting her seventh consecutive Budget, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman unveiled a series of landmark projects and significant fund allocations aimed at Bihar and Andhra Pradesh. These announcements come in response to the demands of both states for special category status and special packages following their bifurcations, and reflect the strategic alliance of the ruling parties in these states with the BJP at the Centre.
Bihar’s Infrastructure Overhaul
In a major boost for Bihar, Sitharaman announced two major expressways: the Patna-Purnia Expressway and the Buxar-Bhagalpur Expressway. These projects, along with the construction of two land bridges over the Ganga River in Buxar District, will significantly enhance the state’s road infrastructure. With a total investment of Rs 26,000 crore, these developments are expected to open new avenues for economic growth and connectivity across Bihar.
Additionally, the Finance Minister revealed plans for new airports, medical colleges, and sports infrastructure in Bihar, which will further contribute to the state’s development. Sitharaman assured that the Bihar government’s request for external assistance from multilateral banks would be expedited, facilitating timely support for these ambitious projects.
Support for Andhra Pradesh
Addressing the financial concerns of Andhra Pradesh, Sitharaman confirmed that the central government recognizes the state’s need for capital as outlined in the Andhra Pradesh Re-organisation Act. To support this, Rs 15,000 crore will be allocated in the current fiscal year, with additional funds planned for future years through multilateral developmental agencies.
The Finance Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to the early completion of the Polavaram project, a crucial infrastructure initiative for Andhra Pradesh that also plays a key role in the country’s food security. Furthermore, grants will be provided for the backward regions of north-coastal Andhra Pradesh to promote balanced regional development.
These announcements reflect the government’s strategic focus on strengthening infrastructure and development in key states, underlining the commitment to regional growth and collaborative governance with allied parties.
