Two documentaries from Arunachal to be screened at MIFF

Itanagar: Two documentaries from Arunachal Pradesh are to be screened at the 17th Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) which started on Sunday.

The documentary film ‘The Galos of Arunachal Pradesh’ directed by Apak Gadi was screened on May 31, while ‘The song we sing, the drums we beat’ directed by Kombong Darang will be screened at the festival on June 2.

Based on the Galo tribes of Arunachal Pradesh, the 23-minute documentary ‘The Galos of Arunachal Pradesh’ highlights the expertise of the tribe in traditional herbal medicines and ancient remedies. 

While the documentary, ‘The song we sing, the drums we beat’ is based on the Kaasik of the Nocte tribe. The documentary shows the pursuit of the tribe to keep their culture, and tradition alive and to install the largest traditional log drum in their village. It depicts the journey of the tribe of reliving their past while reflecting on their future as a distinct culture.

A native of Rengging village of East Siang District, Kombong is currently pursuing his Ph.D. from the Department of Mass Communication, RGU.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu tweeted about the two directors and their documentaries.

Minister for home, IPR, Bamang Felix on his social media post congratulated both the directors.
