Successful 17th Indian Navy – French Navy Staff Talks Foster Stronger Maritime Ties

New Delhi:  The 17th edition of the Indian Navy (IN) – French Navy (FN) Staff Talks concluded on February 7, 2024, in New Delhi, marking another milestone in the collaborative efforts between the two maritime forces. The bilateral meeting, co-chaired by Rear Admiral Nirbhay Bapna, Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Foreign Cooperation and Intelligence) of the Indian Navy, and Rear Admiral Jean Marc Durandau, Director International Engagements of the French Navy, focused on enhancing cooperation and interoperability in various domains.

The two-day Staff Talks saw active participation from both sides, with key discussions encompassing operational strategies, training programs, and exchanges of subject matter experts (SMEs). Both navies recognized and appreciated the increasing level of collaboration in recent years and expressed a shared commitment to further strengthen their ties.

One of the highlights of the event was the acknowledgment of the growing synergy and interoperability between the Indian Navy and the French Navy. The discussions affirmed a mutual understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the maritime domain, paving the way for closer cooperation in addressing common concerns.

In a significant move to underscore the robust partnership, Rear Admiral Jean Marc Durandau, during his visit, called on Vice Admiral Tarun Sobti, Deputy Chief of Naval Staff, on February 7, 2024. The meeting allowed the leaders to reaffirm their commitment to the existing ties and explore avenues for future collaboration.

Additionally, Rear Admiral Durandau visited the Information Fusion Centre for the Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR) on February 6, 2024. This visit showcased the importance placed on maritime security and information-sharing in the strategically vital Indian Ocean Region.

The Staff Talks have not only solidified the existing cooperation but have also set the stage for increased joint exercises, training initiatives, and technology exchanges between the Indian Navy and the French Navy.
