State-Level Children’s Festival ‘Mahak’ Inaugurated in Odisha, Celebrating Talent and Nurturing Dreams

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida inaugurated the state-level children’s festival, ‘Mahak’, at the Kalinga Stadium premises, calling for a united effort to nurture children as the nation’s most valuable asset. The five-day event, organized by the Department of Women and Child Development, celebrates the talents and aspirations of children, particularly those in need of care and protection.

Highlighting Mahatma Gandhi’s belief that children are the key to the nation’s future, Parida expressed a vision for building a beautiful nation by investing in children’s well-being. She emphasized the importance of providing a supportive environment for orphaned children and praised the PM CARES’ scheme and the Shishu Yatna Institutes for their role in ensuring the welfare of vulnerable children.

Minister of Law, Works, and Excise, Prithviraj Harichandan, attending as the guest of honour, described children as “next to Gods” and called for holistic development to harness their inherent talents. He announced personal responsibility for five children’s education and well-being, urging the government to consider additional schemes for orphaned children.

Minister for Higher Education, Odia Language, Literature, and Culture, Suryavanshi Suraj, likened the untapped potential of these children to a forest flower whose fragrance must reach the world. He proposed providing digital platforms to showcase their talents and promote their handicrafts globally.

The festival, previously known as ‘Rainbow,’ was renamed ‘Mahak’ to signify the spreading fragrance of talent. Principal Secretary of Women and Child Development, Shubha Sharma, welcomed the gathering, emphasizing the department’s commitment to uplifting children and rewarding high-quality talent displayed during the event.

The festival also marked the launch of the Child Protection Helpline-1098 video, inaugurated by the Deputy Chief Minister. A melodious performance by child artist Vidusmita Shabar and a soulful rendition of ‘Vande Utkal Janani’ by children from Adruta Children’s Home, Khurda, added charm to the event.

Minister Harichandan highlighted the commendable efforts of the 225 registered child welfare institutions across the state, which are caring for over 8,683 children. The initiative aims to ensure their safety, development, and active participation in society.

The event concluded with the ceremonial release of balloons by the Deputy Chief Minister and other dignitaries, symbolizing the aspirations of children taking flight. The festival, running for five days, will reward outstanding performances and provide a platform for children to showcase their creativity and skills.

This vibrant celebration underscores the Odisha government’s commitment to nurturing young lives and creating an inclusive society where every child’s potential can flourish.
