Special Security Battalion Approved for Puri Jagannath Temple

Bhubaneswar: Embarking on a transformative journey, the Jagannath Temple in Puri is set to undergo substantial enhancements, envisioning foolproof security measures, improved facilitation for devotees, and effective crowd management strategies.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday approved the special creations of the Security Battalion.

Drawing thousands of worshippers daily, the Jagannath Temple stands as a central pillar of faith for Hindus. In the post-COVID era, the temple experienced a daily footfall of around fifty thousand, with a significant surge during weekends and major religious festivities. The impending inauguration of the new Heritage Corridor Project – Srimandir Parikrama Prakalp is expected to further elevate the influx of devotees.

This Special Security Battalion aims to ensure comprehensive security for Srimandir, accompanied by specialized training in crowd management and enhanced devotee facilitation. This strategic move is anticipated to provide devotees with a seamless and organized darshan experience.

With an anticipated personnel strength of approximately 1190, the Special Security Battalion will operate under the command and control of the Superintendent of Police, Puri. This initiative reflects a holistic approach to fortify the sanctity and security of one of the world’s most revered religious sites.
