New Delhi: The procurement of wheat during the Rabi Marketing Season (RMS) 2024-25 is progressing seamlessly in major procuring states across India, surpassing last year’s total procurement figures. A total of 262.48 LMT (lakh metric tonnes) of wheat has already been procured for the Central Pool, exceeding last year’s procurement of 262.02 LMT.
During RMS 2024-25, a substantial number of farmers, totaling 22.31 lakhs, have benefited from the procurement process, with the total Minimum Support Price (MSP) outflow amounting to Rs. 59,715 crores. The primary contributors to wheat procurement include Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, with procurement figures of 124.26 LMT, 71.49 LMT, 47.78 LMT, 9.66 LMT, and 9.07 LMT, respectively.
Simultaneously, rice procurement is also advancing smoothly. A total of 728.42 LMT paddy, equivalent to 489.15 LMT of rice, has been procured directly from 98.26 lakh farmers during the Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2023-24, with an MSP outflow totaling approximately Rs. 1,60,472 crores.
The combined stock of wheat and rice in the Central Pool has now exceeded 600 LMT, positioning the country comfortably to meet its food grain requirements under various welfare schemes, including the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY), and for market interventions.
