Riyadh: In a testament to the growing defence collaboration between India and Saudi Arabia, Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Ajay Bhatt led the Indian delegation at the ongoing World Defence Show (WDS) 2024 in Riyadh. The five-day event, which commenced on February 04, 2024, serves as a crucial platform for showcasing the latest advancements in defence technology and fostering international collaboration among participating companies. Shri Bhatt conveyed his greetings to the Saudi Arabian leadership for hosting this significant event, scheduled to conclude on February 08, 2024.
On February 06, 2024, Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Ajay Bhatt held a meeting with Saudi Arabia’s Defence Minister, Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, during which various aspects of bilateral defence cooperation were discussed. Talks also took place with Assistant Minister of Defence Dr Khaled Al-Bayari, focusing on strengthening the multifaceted defence cooperation between the two nations. The discussions explored avenues for collaboration in joint training exercises, technology transfer, and the exchange of expertise.
Additionally, Shri Ajay Bhatt met with Ahmad Abdulaziz Al-Ohali, the Governor of Saudi Arabia’s General Authority for Military Industries (GAMI). Discussions centered around enhancing collaboration in defence production, research & development, and niche technologies. The Raksha Rajya Mantri visited the pavilion of Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI) at WDS 2024.
Throughout these engagements, both sides demonstrated a profound understanding of the evolving security landscape and expressed commitment to expanding bilateral defence cooperation across various sectors. The discussions emphasized the mutual benefits of a robust partnership in safeguarding regional security. Shri Ajay Bhatt expressed confidence in the continued growth of the India-Saudi Arabia partnership, contributing significantly to regional stability and global security.
The Raksha Rajya Mantri interacted with representatives of Indian defence companies participating in the Defence Show, commending them for their cutting-edge technologies and innovative solutions. The participation of Indian defence companies is expected to increase the footprint and further develop the defence industry in both countries through lasting partnerships.
Shri Ajay Bhatt also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Munitions India Limited and its local partner on the sidelines of WDS 2024. Additionally, he attended a business networking event with leading Indian and Saudi business personalities in Saudi Arabia.
The visit underscored the potential for collaboration between India’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ and Saudi Arabia’s ‘Vision 2030,’ both prioritizing technological advancements, indigenous capabilities, and knowledge sharing.
