New Delhi: In a groundbreaking move aimed at propelling Jammu into a new era of development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit the region on February 20, 2024. During his one-day visit, the Prime Minister will inaugurate, dedicate to the nation, and lay the foundation stone for multiple development projects collectively valued at over Rs 30,500 crore.
The array of projects spans various sectors, including health, education, rail, road, aviation, petroleum, civic infrastructure, and more. This visit marks a significant stride in the government’s commitment to bolstering the economic and social fabric of Jammu and Kashmir.
A focal point of the visit is the boost to the education sector with the inauguration and dedication of prestigious institutes, including IIT Jammu, IIM Jammu, IIT Bhilai, IIT Tirupati, IIITDM Kancheepuram, IIM Bodh Gaya, IIM Visakhapatnam, and the Indian Institute of Skills (IIS) Kanpur. These institutions, with a combined investment of about Rs 13,375 crore, are poised to contribute to the nation’s educational and skilling infrastructure.
Additionally, the Prime Minister will inaugurate AIIMS Jammu, a state-of-the-art healthcare facility that will provide comprehensive tertiary care health services to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Established at a cost of over Rs 1660 crore, AIIMS Jammu boasts modern facilities, including 720 beds, a Medical College with 125 seats, and facilities for various medical disciplines.
The visit also includes the inauguration of the new terminal building at Jammu Airport, designed to enhance air connectivity and contribute to tourism and trade in the region. Furthermore, Prime Minister Modi will dedicate various rail projects, including a new rail line and the electrified Baramulla-Sringar-Banihal-Sangaldan section.
A significant highlight of the event is the Prime Minister’s involvement in the development of road infrastructure, including the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway and the four-laning of Srinagar Ring Road, among others. The projects aim to improve connectivity, reduce travel time, and boost economic development.
Prime Minister Modi will lay the foundation stone for the Common User Facility Petroleum depot at Jammu, a project set to cost about Rs 677 crore. This fully automated depot will play a crucial role in storing various petroleum products.
In a comprehensive approach to strengthen civic infrastructure, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for projects exceeding Rs 3150 crore. These projects encompass road projects, bridges, grid stations, receiving stations, transmission line projects, sewage treatment plants, degree college buildings, and more.
The visit reflects the government’s commitment to holistic development, promoting education, healthcare, connectivity, and civic amenities in Jammu and Kashmir.
