Prime Minister Modi Unveils Mega Development Projects Worth Over Rs 17,300 Crores in Tamil Nadu

 

Thoothukudi:  In a significant boost to Tamil Nadu’s infrastructure and development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone and inaugurated multiple projects worth more than Rs 17,300 crores in Thoothukudi today. The projects encompass various sectors, including ports, railways, roads, and green energy initiatives.

The Prime Minister commenced the historic event by laying the foundation stone of the Outer Harbor Container Terminal at V.O.Chidambaranar Port. This transformative project aims to turn the port into a transshipment hub for the East coast, leveraging India’s vast coastline and strategic geographic location. Valued at 7,000 crore rupees, the container terminal is anticipated to enhance India’s competitiveness in global trade, generate employment opportunities, and fuel economic growth in the region.

A landmark moment in India’s pursuit of clean energy solutions occurred as Prime Minister Modi launched the country’s first indigenous green hydrogen fuel cell inland waterway vessel under the Harit Nauka initiative. Manufactured by Cochin Shipyard, this vessel represents a pioneering step towards embracing green energy and aligning with the nation’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions.

In another significant move, the Prime Minister dedicated tourist facilities in 75 lighthouses across 10 States/UTs. The development of these tourist amenities is expected to turn these iconic structures into major tourist centers, contributing to the growth of tourism in the region.

Rail and road infrastructure also took center stage during the event. Prime Minister Modi dedicated rail projects for the doubling of the Vanchi Maniyachchi – Nagercoil rail line, including the Vanchi Maniyachchi – Tirunelveli section and Melappalayam – Aralvaymoli section. With an investment of about Rs 1,477 crore, these rail projects aim to reduce travel time and enhance connectivity between South Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Additionally, the Prime Minister inaugurated four road projects in Tamil Nadu, developed at a total cost of about Rs 4,586 Crore. These road projects include the four-laning of the Jittandahalli-Dharmapuri section of NH-844, two-laning with paved shoulders of the Meensurutti-Chidambaram section of NH-81, four-laning of the Oddanchatram-Madathukulam section of NH-83, and two-laning with paved shoulders of the Nagapattinam-Thanjavur section of NH-83. These initiatives aim to improve connectivity, reduce travel time, and promote socio-economic growth in the region.

Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Modi expressed his admiration for Tamil Nadu’s progress and emphasized the spirit of “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat” evident in the development projects. He  reiterated the commitment to Viksit Bharat, with Tamil Nadu playing a pivotal role in this journey.

The event showcased the government’s focus on multi-modal connectivity, green energy, and sustainable development, aligning with the vision of a developed and vibrant India. Prime Minister Modi assured the people of Tamil Nadu that their affection and enthusiasm would be matched with continued development initiatives.
