New Delhi: Officer Trainees of the Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Indirect Taxes) met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan today, where she emphasized their pivotal role in shaping the nation’s economic framework and fostering development.
Addressing the trainees, President Murmu highlighted the Indian Revenue Service (IRS) as a cornerstone of India’s uniform tax administration, acting as a vital link between the Government, businesses, and state tax administrations. She stated, “IRS officers are the guardians of the country’s economic boundaries, ensuring uniformity and efficiency in tax systems that connect our economy.”
The President underscored the critical role of the IRS in nation-building. She said the service enables resource utilization for infrastructure development, socio-economic schemes, education, and healthcare services. “This underlines the important role of IRS officers in fostering economic growth and delivering essential public services,” she noted.
President Murmu urged the trainees to work with honesty and dedication, particularly in facilitating international trade agreements and fostering economic cooperation. Highlighting the transformative power of technology, she called for adopting less intrusive methods and innovative solutions in tax collection.
“In this dynamic era, the responsibility of bringing new ideas and solutions in tax administration rests on young officers. Transparency and accountability should be the cornerstones of your systems and processes,” she advised.
The President reminded the officers that taxation extends beyond revenue collection; it is a tool for social, economic, and political advancement. “The taxes paid by citizens are used for the country’s development. By working with dedication, you contribute significantly to building a stronger and more inclusive nation,” she said.
