President Droupadi Murmu Inaugurates National Conference on ‘Environment – 2025’

New Delhi: President of India, Droupadi Murmu, inaugurated the two-day National Conference on ‘Environment – 2025’ in New Delhi, emphasizing the need for continuous activism, awareness, and collective participation to protect and enhance the environment.

In her inaugural address, President Murmu stressed that environmental protection should not be limited to special occasions but should become a part of daily life. She underlined that a clean and vibrant environment is essential for future generations, urging society to consider not only their children’s education and careers but also the quality of air, water, and biodiversity they will inherit.

Highlighting the moral responsibility of environmental stewardship, the President stated that balancing modern development with ecological sustainability is both an opportunity and a challenge. She reaffirmed India’s long-standing tradition of respecting and nurturing nature, rather than exploiting it, and acknowledged the nation’s early achievements in fulfilling its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under international climate agreements.

President Murmu lauded the National Green Tribunal (NGT) for its decisive role in environmental governance and its impact on environmental and climate justice. She encouraged institutions and individuals to continuously strive for environmental protection and sustainable development.

Underscoring India’s global leadership in green initiatives, the President expressed confidence that India will play a pivotal role in shaping a sustainable future. She called for a collective effort to make India a developed nation by 2047, where clean air, water, and lush greenery set an example for the world.
