Brunei: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Chancery premises of the High Commission of India in Brunei today. During the ceremony, the Prime Minister lit a ceremonial lamp and unveiled a plaque to mark the occasion.
In addition to the formal proceedings, Prime Minister Modi interacted with members of the Indian community, acknowledging their significant role as a “living bridge” between India and Brunei. He praised their efforts in strengthening bilateral ties, noting the long-standing contributions of the Indian diaspora, which began in the 1920s with the discovery of oil. Today, around 14,000 Indians reside in Brunei, with Indian doctors and teachers playing a key role in the country’s healthcare and education sectors.
The new chancery complex showcases Indian heritage through its design, blending traditional motifs with contemporary architecture. With elegant claddings and durable Kota stones, the complex reflects the essence of India’s cultural richness while offering a serene and inviting atmosphere.
