New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi warmly welcomed His Majesty the King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, and Her Majesty the Queen, Jetsun Pema Wangchuck, in New Delhi today. The meeting reinforced the close bond shared by India and Bhutan, with discussions spanning development cooperation, trade, clean energy, space technology, and cultural connections.
PM Modi fondly recalled the gracious hospitality extended to him during his state visit to Bhutan in March 2024. Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the robust bilateral relationship and reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation across all sectors.
A key focus of their discussions was the Gelephu Mindfulness City initiative, a visionary project led by His Majesty the King to drive Bhutan’s development and foster greater economic linkages with bordering Indian regions. The leaders also reviewed progress in enhancing economic connectivity between the two nations.
Highlighting India’s commitment to Bhutan’s growth, PM Modi emphasized the doubling of development support for Bhutan’s 13th Five-Year Plan. His Majesty expressed heartfelt gratitude for India’s steadfast assistance in realizing Bhutan’s aspirations for happiness, progress, and prosperity.
The meeting concluded with a luncheon hosted by PM Modi in honor of the visiting royals, celebrating the enduring spirit of mutual trust, cooperation, and understanding that defines the India-Bhutan partnership.
