Odisha’s Global Outreach: Successful Singapore Visit Highlights Investments and Growth Opportunities

Singapore: Odisha’s Chief Minister, Mohan Charan Majhi, led a successful delegation to Singapore, marking a significant milestone in the state’s bid to establish itself as a key destination for global investments and industrial growth. The visit has further solidified Odisha’s growing prominence as an industrial hub and a vital player in India’s development journey.

The delegation, during their productive stay, engaged in high-level Business-to-Government (B2G) and Government-to-Government (G2G) meetings, an investment promotion roadshow, and site visits to major industrial and infrastructure hubs. These interactions laid the groundwork for future collaborations across key sectors such as sustainable water solutions, ship-recycling, semiconductor technology, and green energy.

On the final day of the visit, the delegation had an important meeting with Marcus Lim, CEO and Co-founder of Ecosoftt, focusing on integrating innovative, sustainable water solutions into Odisha’s industrial and urban ecosystems. Additionally, discussions with Rene Pill Pedersen from AP Moller Maersk Group explored opportunities in ship-recycling, container manufacturing, and port-based industrial infrastructure development.

The delegation also visited Singapore’s Suntec City Convention & Exhibition Center, which provided valuable insights for Odisha’s ambition to become a premier Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) destination in India.

Further strengthening Odisha’s position in the global industrial landscape, the delegation visited PEP Innovation Private Ltd, where discussions centered around leveraging Singapore’s expertise in the semiconductor sector to bolster Odisha’s electronics and semiconductor infrastructure.

In the afternoon, the delegation held important talks with industry leaders from Phan Bach, JERA, IHI Corporation, Masan High Tech Materials Corporation, and Ace Gases. The meetings focused on investment opportunities in critical sectors like equipment manufacturing, cold storage and cold chain, green hydrogen, green ammonia, and industrial gases, aligning with Odisha’s vision for industrial diversification and sustainable growth.

A key highlight of the visit was an interactive session with over 400 members of the Odia diaspora in Singapore, where the Chief Minister outlined Odisha’s vision for becoming globally connected. The diaspora expressed strong support, pledging to promote the state’s interests on international platforms. During the session, Shri Majhi invited members of the diaspora to participate in two major upcoming events: the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in Bhubaneswar from 8th to 10th January 2025, and the Utkarsh Odisha: Make in Odisha Conclave on 28th-29th January 2025.

Reflecting on the success of the visit, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi remarked, “Our visit to Singapore has been incredibly productive, allowing us to explore new opportunities and gain valuable insights for Odisha’s growth journey. The support of the Odia diaspora is crucial to strengthening our global outreach. The engaging discussions with industry leaders in sectors such as chemicals, petrochemicals, green energy, and logistics have opened doors for collaborations. I invite all to visit Odisha and join us at the ‘Utkarsh Odisha: Make in Odisha Conclave 2025’ to explore further investment opportunities.”

Industry Minister Sampad Chandra Swain also emphasized that Odisha is committed to improving port-based industrial infrastructure and expanding skill development initiatives. “Our focus remains on sustainable growth, leveraging global expertise to drive innovation and boost economic progress,” he said.

The Odisha delegation’s successful engagements have set the stage for future collaborations with Singapore, paving the way for the state to attract international investments and strengthen its industrial ecosystem. The upcoming Utkarsh Odisha: Make in Odisha Conclave 2025 is poised to be a key platform to foster future business partnerships and collaborations, positioning Odisha as an emerging global investment destination.
