Bhubaneswar: Pratyasa Ray, a distinguished athlete hailing from Odisha and representing Utkal University, showcased exceptional talent and brought glory to her state and institution at the recently concluded 4th Khelo India University Games (KIUG).
Pratyasa Ray, a swimming prodigy developed through the Odisha IIS Swimming High-Performance Centre (HPC), emerged as the most successful female athlete of KIUG, amassing an impressive collection of 4 gold medals, along with a silver and bronze each. Her remarkable achievements at KIUG underscored her consistency and prowess in the sport, adding to her previous medal hauls in the competition.
The multi-disciplinary event spanned seven north-eastern states and witnessed intense competition among university athletes.
The 21-year-old swimming sensation has been a standout performer in previous editions of KIUG, consistently making significant contributions to her team’s success. Her dedication and skill have made her a role model for aspiring athletes in the region.
Acknowledging exceptional talent on the male front, Xavier Michael D’souza from Jain University earned the distinction of being the most successful male athlete at KIUG, securing 4 gold medals.
In the team standings, Chandigarh University clinched the coveted title with an impressive tally of 32 gold, 18 silver, and 21 bronze medals. Lovely Professional University from Punjab’s Phagwara secured the second position with 20 gold, 14 silver, and 8 bronze medals, while Amritsar’s Guru Nanak Dev University secured the third position with 12 gold, 20 silver, and 19 bronze medals.
