Odisha Hosts State-Level Painting Workshop Celebrating Birsa Munda’s 150th Birth Anniversary

Bhubaneswar: Marking the 150th birth anniversary of tribal icon Birsa Munda, Odisha’s Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Research and Training Institute (SCSTRTI) wrapped up a three-day painting workshop, spotlighting the legacy of Janjatiya Gaurav Divas. Held at the Kalinga Art Gallery in the Odisha State Museum, the workshop brought together 30 artists from across the state.

The event’s closing ceremony was attended by Bishnupada Sethi (IAS), Principal Secretary of the STSC Development, M&BCW Department, who honored the artists for their contribution to celebrating Odisha’s rich indigenous heritage. Joining him were SCSTRTI Director Indramani Tripathy (IAS) and B.K. College of Arts and Crafts Principal Subrat Mallick, who congratulated the artists for their powerful tributes to Munda’s legacy through their art.

Sethi emphasized the importance of remembering revolutionary figures, noting that Janjatiya Gaurav Divas, started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, would now be celebrated across Odisha, from state capitals to local blocks. “Birsa Munda’s life was dedicated to the pursuit of truth and justice,” he remarked. “Through this workshop, we honor his vision and begin a new era of recognition for his contributions.”

The workshop, launched on November 4 in partnership with B.K. College of Arts and Crafts, provided an engaging platform for artists to express Munda’s ideals. Director Shri Tripathy highlighted the workshop’s success, applauding the participants for bringing indigenous art traditions to life and inspiring future generations.
