Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has assured the continuation of the state’s health insurance scheme for working journalists. His assurance came in a written response to a query by Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati in the State Assembly on Thursday.
Majhi confirmed that the renewal of health cards under the Gopabandhu Sambadika Swasthya Bima Yojana, a dedicated health insurance scheme for journalists, is currently under review. He promised that the renewal process would be completed before the current health cards expire on August 31, 2024.
Since its inception in 2018, the Gopabandhu Sambadika Swasthya Bima Yojana has provided crucial health insurance coverage to working journalists and their families across the state. The scheme has been a vital support system for media professionals, ensuring access to medical care.
While the renewal of health cards usually occurs annually in August, the process has faced a delay this year due to the recent change in government. Majhi reassured the Assembly that despite the delay, the state government is committed to ensuring the timely renewal of health insurance coverage for journalists.
