Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday announced that the Odisha government will bear the expenses for the transportation of bringing back students and workers stranded in Ukraine.
Earlier he also spoke to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah over telephone, requesting him to take urgent steps to bring back students and workers from Odisha stuck in Ukraine.
The CM also directed Development Commissioner-cum-Special Relief Commissioner PK Jena to coordinate of bringing back people from Odisha. Besides, the Resident Commissioner in New Delhi will coordinate with the Centre.
He has also directed the district administrations to collect information regarding students and workers in Ukraine and coordinate with their family members.
It is estimated that over 1,500 students from Odisha are stuck in Ukraine. Most of the students from Odisha are pursuing medical courses at National Medical University in Kharkiv and Kyiv Medical University.
