Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi personally called ASHA worker Shivani Mandal of Rajnagar Community Health Center (CHC) in Kendrapara district to commend her for her extraordinary courage and dedication during Cyclone Dana. Shivani’s swift actions helped ensure the safe evacuation of Khasamunda village residents amid the storm’s devastation.
When heavy rain prevented an elderly, paralyzed woman from reaching the cyclone shelter, Shivani carried her on her back over a kilometer and a half, risking her own safety to bring the woman to shelter. Over the course of the day, Shivani went on to carry seven other adults and two pregnant women to safety, inspiring many with her relentless efforts.
During the phone conversation, Chief Minister Majhi expressed profound gratitude for Shivani’s selfless actions, stating, “May Lord Jagannath bless you always. May you continue to help others in times of need.” He also learned that Shivani herself lacked stable housing, prompting him to immediately instruct the Rajnagar Block Development Officer (BDO) to arrange housing for her as a mark of appreciation for her invaluable service.
Shivani’s courage has become a symbol of resilience and dedication in Odisha, with her actions underscoring the vital role of frontline health workers in safeguarding communities during natural disasters.
