Sambalpur: On the auspicious occasion of the Nuakhai festival, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi launched the CM-KISAN Yojana, a new scheme aimed at supporting small, nomadic, and landless farmers across the state. The launch took place during a grand event in Sambalpur, marking a significant step in the state’s efforts to empower vulnerable farming communities.
Under the CM-KISAN Yojana, eligible farmers will receive a total financial assistance of Rs 4,000 per year, distributed in two installments. The first installment of Rs 2,000 was disbursed today, while the remaining Rs 2,000 will be provided during Akshaya Tritiya next year. This scheme replaces the previous Kalia Yojana, rebranded by the state’s BJD government to offer more inclusive support to farmers.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Majhi expressed his commitment to improving the livelihoods of Odisha’s farmers, particularly the landless and nomadic communities. “This initiative will help enhance the financial stability of our farmers and ensure they receive the support they need for their agricultural pursuits,” he said.
Also present at the event were Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari, and several local MLAs. Deputy Chief Ministers Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Pravati Parida, along with other officials, joined the event via videoconferencing.
In addition to launching the CM-KISAN Yojana, Majhi inaugurated the Krushak Odisha Unified Portal of the Agriculture and Farmers Empowerment Department. This platform will enable seamless access to government services and ensure timely disbursement of funds to farmers.
The CM-KISAN Yojana will also benefit landless farmers, who will receive Rs 12,500 in three installments. However, these beneficiaries are required to register through the newly launched CM-KISAN Grievance Portal within the next two months for inclusion in the scheme.
A total of Rs 925.40 crore is set to be distributed to the bank accounts of approximately 45,97,036 beneficiaries under this initiative. The disbursement is expected to bring much-needed relief to farmers, ensuring their financial security during critical agricultural seasons.
Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Majhi, accompanied by Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, celebrated the Nuakhai festival at the revered Maa Samaleswari Temple in Sambalpur. Majhi, who is on a two-day visit to the region, offered prayers to the presiding deity, with his wife joining him for the traditional festivities.
The event was also attended by several high-ranking officials, including Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari, Rural Development Minister Rabi Narayan Naik, and Sambalpur MLA Jayanarayan Mishra.
