Odisha Assembly Winter Session Adjourned Sine Die Ahead of Schedule

Bhubaneswar: The winter session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly, which commenced on November 26, was adjourned sine die by Speaker Surama Padhy on December 10, nearly 20 days ahead of its scheduled conclusion on December 31.

During the session, the Assembly passed the Appropriation Bill (Two), 2024, granting the state government permission to utilize ₹12,156 crore from the Consolidated Fund of Odisha for the remainder of the financial year 2024-25. This critical bill was passed on December 5.

Over the course of 12 sittings, the House passed three official bills, introduced 10 private members’ bills, and discussed two Private Members’ Resolutions. Six adjournment motions were also debated, reflecting a mix of legislative and policy deliberations.

The early adjournment of the session has raised questions among political observers, but Speaker Padhy described the proceedings as “productive,” citing significant discussions on the state’s budgetary and legislative priorities.
