Kota: The Ministry of Textiles is set to host the ‘One Bharat Sari Walkathon’ at Dussehra Ground, Shakti Nagar, Kota, Rajasthan on Sunday, 4th February 2024, in collaboration with the AatmNirbhar Bharat Utsav. This event, following the successful editions in Surat and Mumbai, aims to raise awareness about fitness among women while celebrating the rich cultural diversity of India.
The Sari Walkathon is a unique initiative where thousands of women from across the country come together, draped in saris representing the pride of their respective states. The event not only promotes fitness but also supports the ‘Vocal for Local’ idea, encouraging women to embrace traditional attire.
The AatmNirbhar Bharat Utsav, being held from 3rd February to 8th February 2024, complements the walkathon by showcasing and celebrating self-reliance in India. The event provides holistic support to traditional artisans and craftspeople, with a focus on the handloom sector. The handloom sector, a symbol of the country’s rich cultural heritage, engages more than 35 lakh individuals, especially women.
India’s handloom sector is known for its exquisite saree varieties, each region contributing unique designs and traditional motifs. From Paithani to Banarasi Brocade, the handloom sarees are a reflection of India’s diverse cultural tapestry.
The ‘One Bharat Sari Walkathon’ aims to promote the handloom saree culture in India, inviting women from various states to showcase their distinctive ways of wearing sarees. With an expected participation of around 10,000 women, the event aims to present India as a country with “Unity in Diversity.”
The participants will include women from various state government bodies, apex societies, primary handloom weavers’ cooperative societies, and artisans. The event is not only a celebration of cultural diversity but also an empowerment initiative, with the participation of celebrities, influential personalities, fashion designers, and committed Anganwadi workers.
The ‘One Bharat Sari Walkathon’ is a vibrant platform to bring together women from different regions, fostering a sense of unity, cultural exchange, and promoting the importance of fitness in their lives.
