New Delhi: In a significant development aimed at boosting employment accessibility across India, the Ministry of Labour & Employment and Amazon have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in New Delhi today. The collaboration marks a major step toward providing expanded job opportunities through the National Career Service (NCS) portal, a government-led initiative designed to bridge the gap between job seekers and employers.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Union Minister of Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, and Union Minister of State for Labour & Employment and Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises, Sushri Shobha Karandlaje. Both ministers emphasized the transformative potential of the partnership in creating inclusive job opportunities, particularly for women and persons with disabilities, while streamlining recruitment processes for companies like Amazon.
Dr. Mandaviya, while addressing the gathering, remarked, “The NCS portal is evolving into a one-stop platform for employment opportunities across various sectors and industries. This partnership with Amazon will empower India’s youth by expanding job accessibility, enabling them to discover the right roles, and building a future filled with opportunities and growth.”
He further added, “We are in the process of upgrading the NCS portal, incorporating Artificial Intelligence (AI) to offer a more user-friendly interface for job seekers, employers, and stakeholders.”
Sushri Karandlaje echoed this sentiment, stating, “The NCS portal is a dynamic bridge connecting India’s diverse talent pool with opportunities across sectors. Integration with Amazon will promote skill development, economic growth, and job creation. By reducing hiring costs and streamlining recruitment, this collaboration is a path toward greater economic inclusion.”
Key Features of the MoU
The agreement, which is set for an initial period of two years, includes several initiatives to enhance employment accessibility:
- Amazon and its third-party staffing agencies will regularly post job vacancies on the NCS portal, conducting hiring through the platform.
- The collaboration will facilitate the organization of job fairs at Model Career Centres (MCCs), where job seekers can interact directly with Amazon’s recruitment teams.
- The MoU places a strong focus on inclusivity, prioritizing employment opportunities for women and divyang (persons with disabilities) candidates, ensuring equal access to job opportunities.
Benefits for Job Seekers
Job seekers using the NCS portal will gain access to a broader range of opportunities, particularly within Amazon’s vast global network. With positions available in fields such as logistics, technology, and customer service, the partnership offers not only employment but also career advancement opportunities by working with a prestigious global brand. This collaboration ensures that individuals from various parts of India can connect with employment roles that match their skills and aspirations.
Benefits for Amazon
Amazon, along with its third-party staffing agencies, will benefit from access to a diverse talent pool through the NCS portal. The Ministry of Labour & Employment will support Amazon by facilitating database integration and assisting in the organization of job fairs across the country. This seamless integration will help Amazon meet its staffing requirements while promoting an inclusive workforce.
The NCS Portal: Transforming Employment in India
Operational since July 2015, the National Career Service portal has transformed the employment landscape in India. Managed by the Ministry of Labour & Employment, the portal offers a wide array of services, including job search, career counselling, vocational guidance, and skill development resources. It has become a vital tool for job seekers, employers, and educational institutions alike.
Earlier this year, the NCS portal crossed the milestone of 2 million active vacancies listed on a single day, with an average of 15–18 lakh job opportunities available at any given time. The platform now hosts over 60 lakh active job seekers and 33.50 lakh active employers, making it one of India’s most powerful tools for connecting talent with opportunities.
A Vision for the Future
With its integration into 28 state and UT employment portals and several private job platforms, the NCS portal continues to evolve as a critical resource for India’s workforce. The MoU with Amazon reinforces the government’s commitment to providing accessible, inclusive, and diverse employment opportunities, propelling the nation towards economic growth and self-reliance.
