New Delhi: Odisha’s Bomkai saree has been selected to be showcased at the “Anant Sutra- The Endless Thread”, a stunning textile installation at Kartavya Path.
In a visual extravaganza celebrating India’s rich textile heritage, the Ministry of Culture is set to showcase ‘Anant Sutra – The Endless Thread’. Placed behind the spectators in the enclosures, Anant Sutra pays homage to the saree, an iconic symbol of Indian fashion known globally.
This unique installation promises to captivate onlookers with nearly 1,900 sarees and drapes sourced from every nook and corner of the country. Adorning wooden frames along the Kartavya Path, the installation elevates the saree to an art form. Each saree will be equipped with QR codes, allowing visitors to scan and unveil details about the intricate weaving and embroidery arts employed in its creation.
Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Amita Prasad Sarbhai, briefed the media about the visual spectacle, describing ‘Anant Sutra’ as a delightful showcase of sarees, weaves, and embroideries from diverse States and Union Territories of India. The installation promises to create a mesmerizing backdrop along the Kartavya Path, immersing spectators in the cultural tapestry of India.
This initiative serves as the Ministry of Culture’s tribute to the women power of India and the millions of skilled weavers across the nation. By highlighting the timeless tradition of saree-making, the installation recognizes the efforts of artisans who have passed down this craft through generations. Ms. Sandhya Raman, the curator of the installation, along with Dr. Sachhidanand Joshi, Member Secretary of IGNCA, and Professor Richa Kamboj, were present during the media briefing.
Anant Sutra is not just an ode to the saree; it is a celebration of India’s cultural diversity, weaving arts, and embroidery traditions.
