New Delhi: In a significant move towards enhancing transparency and efficiency in the cooperative sector, the Ministry of Cooperation, Government of India, has successfully developed the National Cooperative Database (NCD). This comprehensive database incorporates information from various sectors, including Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), with the collaboration and support of State Governments.
Nodal officers appointed by the States and Union Territories have played a pivotal role in entering data from diverse Cooperative Societies into the National Cooperative Database. This initiative aims to streamline information management, promote accountability, and foster a cooperative ecosystem that thrives on shared resources and collective growth.
To further strengthen the cooperative framework, a 49-member National Level Committee was constituted under the chairmanship of Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu. This committee comprises experts from the cooperative sector, representatives from National, State, District, and Primary level cooperative societies, as well as Secretaries (Cooperation) and RCSs from States/UTs. Additionally, officers from Central Ministries and Departments have been actively involved in the committee.
The National Level Committee, in its pursuit to formulate a New National Cooperation Policy, conducted 17 meetings and organized four regional workshops across the country. These events provided a platform for stakeholders to share valuable insights, suggestions, and recommendations, fostering a collaborative approach to policy development in the cooperative sector.
The expert committee, having meticulously compiled feedback and insights gathered during the meetings and workshops, has now presented a draft report on the New National Cooperation Policy. The Ministry of Cooperation is currently in the process of reviewing the report, marking a crucial step towards shaping the future of cooperative governance in the country.
The forthcoming New National Cooperation Policy is anticipated to usher in a new era of cooperative development, addressing contemporary challenges and leveraging opportunities for growth. As the Ministry progresses towards finalizing the policy, the cooperative sector awaits eagerly for the positive impact it is poised to make on the socio-economic landscape of India.
