Lucknow: In a thrilling encounter at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) clinched a remarkable 33-run victory against the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match.
LSG’s triumph marked their inaugural success over GT in IPL history, having previously faced defeat in all four encounters across the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
The match began with GT chasing a target of 164 runs set by LSG. Despite a strong start by GT’s openers Shubman Gill and B Sai Sudharsan, who confidently navigated the powerplay overs, LSG’s bowlers staged a remarkable comeback.
Yash Thakur emerged as the hero for LSG, delivering a spectacular performance with the ball. Thakur’s crucial wickets, including that of Gill and Vijay Shankar, dismantled GT’s top order and swung the momentum in LSG’s favor. Thakur’s exceptional spell culminated in his maiden TATA IPL five-wicket haul, ensuring GT’s defeat.

Earlier in the match, LSG’s innings saw a solid partnership between KL Rahul and Marcus Stoinis, who steadied the ship after an initial setback. Stoinis played a pivotal role, scoring a brisk 58 runs off 43 balls, while Rahul provided stability with his composed batting.
Nicholas Pooran’s explosive cameo towards the end, accompanied by Ayush Badoni’s quickfire knock, propelled LSG to a competitive total of 163 runs. Pooran’s three sixes in the final overs proved crucial in bolstering LSG’s score and setting up the victory.
