Koraput: The Kala Jeera rice of Koraput district, which recently received the Geographical Indication (GI) tag, has been dispatched to the Jagannath Temple in Puri to be used in Mahaprasad.
A team of 12 tribal women, representing Jaivik Shree Farmers Producers Company in Koraput, transported baskets of Kala Jeera rice to the Jagannath Temple in Puri, also known as Sabari Shreekhetra.
Produced in Odisha, the highly aromatic Kala Jeera rice is a native rice variety, with slender, small grains. This aromatic rice is versatile and finds use in various dishes such as Pulao, Kheer, and Biryani.
Now adorned with the prestigious GI tag, this miniature version of basmati rice will play a significant role in the divine service of Lord Jagannath at the renowned temple in Puri.
