New Delhi: Sunita Kejriwal, the wife of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, took the center stage on Sunday at the INDIA bloc rally at Ramlila Maidan, where she read out a message from her husband and raised questions regarding his arrest by the Centre.
Chief Minister Kejriwal is currently in Enforcement Directorate custody in connection with a case related to an excise policy.
Before reading the letter, Sunita Kejriwal posed a series of questions to the audience, “Is it justifiable that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has imprisoned my husband? Do you believe in the integrity and patriotism of Kejriwal ji? Despite calls from BJP members for his resignation due to his incarceration, do you think he should step down?”
Asserting Kejriwal’s resilience, she declared, “Remember, your Kejriwal is resilient like a lion; they cannot confine him for long.” Sunita Kejriwal is leading the campaign ‘Kejriwal ko ashirwad’, announced by her a few days ago through a video message, under the banner of AAP.
The rally, attended by top opposition leaders including Rahul Gandhi, Uddhav Thackeray, Sharad Pawar, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Bhagwant Mann, Akhilesh Yadav, Farooq Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti, Tejashwi Yadav, and Gopal Rai, aims to protest against the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal.
Mehbooba Mufti, during her speech, criticized the BJP’s approach towards honesty, suggesting that if Kejriwal were to join the BJP, he would suddenly be praised for his integrity. She also highlighted BJP’s alleged hypocrisy regarding dynastic politics by mentioning recent party inclusions.
Uddhav Thackeray condemned the BJP’s slogan of “Abki baar, 400 paar,” urging the public to support the defeat of the BJP with a new slogan, “Abki baar, BJP tadi paar.” Thackeray criticized the government’s actions against farmers and warned against a dangerous shift towards dictatorship.
AAP Minister Gopal Rai accused the Central government of undermining democracy through agencies like the ED and the CBI, emphasizing that the government’s aim was to silence opposition voices.
Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21 in connection with an alleged excise scam and is currently in the agency’s custody.
